The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) was established in 1936, to create an institution to train human service professionals to address social and economic problems in the country. Prof. Clifford Manshardt of famed Chicago University was at the forefront of its creation. In the subsequent decades, TISS influenced the direction of social work education and social research in India and Asia. TISS celebrated it Platinum Jubilee in the year 2012.
Students should have passed 12th Class or Intermediate in any subject stream from a Recognised Board. Students who have studied International Baccalaureate Diploma and will be completing 12th class with clear results declared by June 2020 are eligible to apply.
Candidates who have appeared for their 12th class or Intermediate final exams and are awaiting results are also eligible to apply. Final pass result should be produced at the time of joining the programme, if selected.
Candidate should be 23 years or less in age at the time of appearing for the Bachelors Admission Test. Applications from candidates over this age will not be entertained.
The total intake is 140 seats in BA Programme in Social Sciences and 40 seats in B.A. (Hons) in Social Work. The details of seats by campus and programme are presented below:
TISS Mumbai conducts several Masters, M.Phil and Ph.D. programmes. TISS currently hosts 11 Schools in the Mumbai campus (each having several centres), 4 independent Cent res, and a world class library. TISS Mumbai does not offer Undergraduate programmes
Examination structure of TISS BAT is divided in two parts, paper 1 and paper 2. Total time allotted for both the papers is 90 minutes. Total marks of both the papers are 100.
There are separate cut offs for both the papers and candidates needs to appear and clear both of them. Candidates can take both the exams in English Medium only.
TISS BAT includes subjects like General Awareness,Mathematics, Data Interpretation, Logical Reasoning and English Proficiency in Paper 1 and Essay writing in Paper 2

Data Interpretation Bar Graphs, Pie Charts, Tables and Venn Diagrams
Logical Reasoning Alphabet Series, Number Series, Sitting Arrangements, Blood Relations, Logical Connectivity, Coding Decoding, Direction Sense, Clocks, Calendars, Puzzles, Cubes and Statement Conclusion.
General Awareness Current Affairs, Media, Advertisements, History, Geography, Politics, Economy, Constitution, Awards, Health, Technology, Environment and Nature.
Essay writing There is no specified syllabus for essay writing. Candidates must be aware of social issues in the country and must know to opinionate on those issues..
